Coaching
High School Tennis
with
Bill Mountford, USTA National Tennis
Center Director of Tennis (NTC), US
Open Director of Player Operations,
USPTA Eastern Division President,
Founder of the HEAD Junior Tennis
Academy (NJ), USTA.com contributor
("Tips of the Week" &
"Ask Bill" columns).
Internationally known for his success
in teaching tennis, Bill Mountford has
created an exciting instructional
video specifically for high school
coaching! With a combination of
lecture-style teaching and on-court
demonstration, Mountford reveals his
secrets for becoming a successful
coach. He begins by stating six simple
guidelines for coaching: keep it
simple, compliment profusely, avoid
over-coaching, keep instruction
concise, become a resource for tennis
in the community, and promote the
game. Mountford also gives his advice
on topics such as ranking systems for
players, conditioning, and building
team unity. He uses on-court
demonstration to illustrate four
different innovative practice drills.
Each drill is uniquely designed to
emulate game situations as well as
continually condition players. He
discusses and demonstrates how to have
a successful practice with minimal
court space using drills such as
"rotating approach" and
"circle game". With drills
such as "half-court
king/queen" and
"triples", Mountford
demonstrates how to utilize a large
number of courts with minimal players.
Mountford shows how to design each
practice to help you easily evaluate
each player's true ability. He also
provides tactics and strategy advice
for both singles and doubles players.
This DVD will benefit not only you,
but also the students you instruct! 30
minutes. 2005. DVD.
